Vision for Nantwich selected as the preferred bidder
Planning application expected early 2018
The former gasworks site on St Anne’s Lane occupies an important location in Nantwich, close to the town centre, just south of Welsh Row and next to the River Weaver. The site has been owned by the Council since the 1980s but a range of issues, including gross contamination, defective legal title, financial liabilities contingent on a sale and concerns over loss of the informal parking on the site have frustrated previous attempts to bring forward development.
In 2014, Engine of the North was instructed to manage the disposal of the site for development. Since then, the extent of contamination has been established and a remediation strategy agreed with the Environment Agency, the title issues have been resolved, central government has waived historic financial liabilities and, following a marking campaign by Colliers International, Vision for Nantwich Limited have been selected as the preferred bidder. A sale was approved by the Council in February 2017, detailed terms have been agreed and solicitors are instructed. A planning application is expected in early 2018.
Vision for Nantwich has produced a video fly-through of their initial proposals, which can be viewed a www.visionfornantwich.com.
What are the benefits of the proposals?
